Charles Hardy Greene, 68, of 128 Woodland Circle, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1995, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin.
Mr. Greene was born in Gates County, N.C. He was the son of the late Charles Hardy and Mrs. Iola G. Greene, he was a retried mechanical maintenance supervisor with Union Camp Corp. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Gates County, a charter member of VFW Post (NU)7312, and was a veteran, having served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force. A member and past master of Gatesville Masonic Lodge (NU)126, he had served as its secretary for many years. He was a member of the Valley of New Bern Scottish Rite Bodies; the Sudan and Khedive Temples of the Shrine; the Sudan Flag Team; the Sudan Roadrunners (transportation for crippled children); and had served as a Potentate's aide. He was a past president of both the Roanoke-Chowan Shrine Club and the Franklin Shrine Club. He was also a charter member of Gates County Chapter (NU)355, The Order of the Eastern Star, where he was a past patron and had served as District Deputy.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Evans Greene; one daughter, Jo Anne Greene-Sides of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, Charlie Greene of Farmville, N.C. and Maj. Christopher Greene of Rocky Mount, N.C.; one sister, Vernell G. Brooks of Mechanicsville, Va.; and six grandchildren, Hannah, Rachel, and Sarah Sides, and Jennifer, Patrick, and Jon Greene.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lisa Creech Bledsoe, the Rev. Laura Early, and the Rev. Edward Johnson. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family today form 7 to 9 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, N.C., and at other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sudan Temple Crippled Children's Hospital Transportation Fund, P.O. Drawer 490, New Bern, N.C. 28563.
