A Portsmouth restaurant that dates back to the 1940s has been leased by Bobby Brooks, owner of Lobscouser restaurant Downtown.
Brooks said he is remodeling the building at the foot of Constitution Avenue on Scotts Creek and hopes to re-open the eatery in October.
The building, first used to store lumber for shipbuilding, may be more than 100 years old. It was first used as a restaurant, known as ``Saunders Ship,'' in the 1940s. It became the Flagship in 1952 and was operated by E.T. Gresham. Several persons have run the restaurant over the past two decades.
Brooks said the menu at the Flagship will continue to feature home-style cooking that has been its mainstay over the years. by CNB
