Regarding the writer who is ``glad'' the Virginia Beach school system spent an extra $7 million (letter, Sept. 4): What makes the writer believe this money was spent on ``your children's education'' and not on some bureaucrat's or administrator's ``conference'' in Hawaii or Las Vegas?
The attitude of spending money which is not there is the main reason this country is in the mess it is today.
Using this rationale, if our city departments had the lack of oversight that the school system apparently has, we could then spend as much as we want for anything and everything considered important by almost everyone in government. Not only is this nutty, it is probably illegal.
