KALEIDOSCOPE: THE SCHOOL BUDGET DEFICIT

Dr. James L. Pughsley, Interim Superintendent

Virginia Beach City Public Schools

2512 George Mason Drive

Virginia Beach, VA. 23456

Dear Dr. Pughsley:

I have attempted to refrain from entering the review of the events that lead up to the August discovery of an end of year shortfall of funds. I have fielded questions of the media that serve Gwinnett County and have provided information on the situation with the Gwinnett County Board of Education. Your public relations staff should have copies of all media attention here.

It is my opinion that neither short-term nor long-term solutions will be shaped through the media. As a result, I ahve not returned telephone inquiries to news reporters in Virginia.

The purpose of this letter is to communicate to you and City Manager, Jim Spore, my willingness to provide any information needed in the course of resolving this situation. I have great respect for your integrity as well as the integrity of Jim Spore.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the fire at Princess Anne High School. Please know that you, your staff, the students and staff at Princess Anne are ever present in my thoughts and prayers.

Sidney L. Faucette
