Police Officer Daniel W. Burton Jr., 30, died Sept. 7, 1995, in Norfolk General Hospital.
Officer Burton was a member of the Virginia Beach Police Department for six years, during which time he served as a field training officer, detective and coach in the PAL's basketball program. He also served in the U.S. Naval reserves.
Mr. Burton was born in Virginia Beach and was a member of Rock Church. Survivors include his wife, Leigh Ann Scott Burton; one daughter, Sydney Cara; one son, Alexander Daniel; his mother, Virginia Burton; maternal grandmother, Lydia Grimstead; one brother, Kamau David Capps of New London, Conn.; two sisters, Armileta Capps of Virginia Beach, Karen Osmer of Chesapeake; one niece, Dionne Wills; three nephews, Zavon Lewis, Ian Osmer, Jordan Osmer; and one great-niece, Ravin Jones.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Rock Church, 640 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Betty Forbes. Viewing will be held at Community Funeral Home, Norfolk, from 3 to 8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial gifts may be made to the Officer Daniel W. Burton Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o Leigh Ann Scott Burton, at either branch of the Virginia Beach Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union, 4164 Virginia Beach Blvd., or Municipal Center, Virginia Beach.
