W. Chauncey Meekins, 91, of Avon, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mr. Meekins was a native of Avon and retired from the National Park Service. He also was a retired building contractor and commercial fisherman and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Avon. He was the son of the late David Fields Meekins and the late Mrs. Menvil Gray Meekins. He was the widower of Kathleen Hooper Meekins.
He is survived by three daughters, Olga M. Infanti of Staten Island, N.Y., Enna M. Scarborough and Barbara M. Austin, both of Avon; two sons, David H. Meekins of Virginia Beach and Richard P. Meekins of Avon; three sisters, Merian H. Meekins and Lola H. Meekins, both of Avon, and Brooksie M. Kuhl of Ashland, Va.; one brother, Milton B. Meekins of Norfolk; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A church service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. John's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Berry Taylor and the Rev. Maurice Quidley. Burial will follow in the Meekins Family Cemetery, Avon. The body will be placed in the church this evening. Twiford Island Chapel, Hatteras, is in charge of arrangements.
