MEETING TO HELP THOSE WHO SEARCHED FOR BOY

The Virginia Beach Police Department - in cooperation with the employee assistance program at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth - will hold an ``educational and information meeting'' on Tuesday for people who helped search for a 2-year-old boy.

Jake Slayton, son of a city police officer, disappeared from his home Wednesday.

Dozens of police and rescue workers - many working off duty - joined family friends and neighbors in an extensive search of the Pembroke Lakes area.

The search went on through one night and into the next day. News that the boy had been found dead in the Western Branch of the Lynnhaven River left many of the volunteers emotionally drained.

Although Tuesday's program is intended for anyone who helped look for the boy, it is also open to the public.

It will be held at 5 p.m. at Pembroke Manor United Church of Christ at Virginia Beach Boulevard and Hinsdale Road.
