ALICE W. HANCOCK

Alice West Hancock, 89, formerly of Virginia Beach, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 1995, in a Norfolk health care center.

She was the widow of Dr. Ira L. Hancock Jr. and worked as the registered nurse in his office for many years. She was born in Norfolk and was the daughter of the late Minnie Giddings and Richard W. West.

She was a graduate of the St. Vincent DePaul Hospital School of Nursing, a member of Charity United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach Chapter No. 75, Order of Eastern Star, the Ruth Bible Class, Cape Henry Woman's Club and was a former member of Princess Anne Country Club and the Virginia Beach Library Board.

Survivors include two sons, I. Lionel Hancock III and his wife Carole Lee of Norfolk and Richard W. Hancock Sr. and his wife Rebecca of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Kimberlee H. Harvey of Williamsburg, Mary H. Dalton of Raleigh, N.C., Allison P. Hancock of Norfolk, Richard W. Hancock Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., and Shannon M. Hancock of Virginia Beach; a great-grandchild, Tyler Dalton of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, in Charity United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Talmadge T. Markham. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to the Creeds Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. Cox Funeral Home is in charge.
