Evalyn Mae Barnes, 85, of the 4700 block of Bridge Road, died Sept. 10, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Barnes, the widow of Alfred C. Barnes, was a retired office clerk for Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. She was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., and was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Geneva Stratman and her husband, John, of Hamilton, Ohio, and Jean Lawrence and her husband, Tom of Millbrook, Ala.; one son, Alfred C. Barnes Jr. and his wife, Leona of Encinita, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece. She was predeceased by a daughter, Julia Mounie; two brothers, Rev. John Stafford Garrenton and James Worth Garrenton; and a sister, Claudia Garrenton Nixon.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, by the Rev. Ronald R. Rice. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at other times at 2901 E. Point Drive, in Chesapeake. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association or one's favorite charity.
