WIND AND CALM SEAS YIELD A MIXTURE OF FISH

Northeast winds and fairly calm seas provided a mixture of fish for pier anglers along the Dare coast Tuesday.

Tailor bluefish were taken during the morning on Kitty Hawk Pier. Spot were landed two at a time later in the day.

Anglers on Avalon Pier caught bluefish and a few pompano early in the morning, and lots of pompano on sand fleas throughout the afternoon.

A few sea mullet, small blues and a 9-pound albacore were landed on Nags Head Pier. Louise Anthony of Nags Head decked a 3-pound speckled trout using a grub.

Spot and sea mullet were caught from Jennette's Pier during the morning, but afternoon fishing was slow.

Outer Banks Pier reported spot, small bluefish and a few pompano taken throughout the day.

South of Oregon Inlet, anglers on Rodanthe Pier landed some spot and a 6-pound puppy drum.

Sea mullet, a few bluefish and several nice puppy drum were taken from Avon Pier.

Frisco Pier reopened after repairs of recent storm damage, and reported small flounder landed.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches was fair, with small bottom fish, pompano and a few puppy drum taken.

Flounder, spot, croaker and pigfish were landed around Oregon Inlet.

Puppy-drum fishing was good south of Oregon Inlet from Rodanthe to Buxton. Small bluefish also were fairly abundant in the area.

Some puppy drum were landed during the morning at Cape Point. Flounder and bluefish were beached during the rest of the day.

Flounder and small bottom fish were taken along the beach from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore trolling was slow around Oregon Inlet. Headboats caught a few croaker. Flounder fishing in the Davis Slough area was slow.

Scattered dolphin and tuna were landed by the charter fleet in the Gulf Stream off Oregon Inlet. Yellowfin tuna catches were reported from the 40630 mark to ``the point.''

Scattered dolphin were taken northeast of Oregon Inlet and a few billfish were released.

Good catches of dolphin and wahoo were landed by the Hatteras charter fleet, but billfish action was slow.

Light winds and clear water could produce some speckled trout action in the surf along the northern beaches.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 75.5 degrees Tuesday. by CNB
