ISN'T THAT A BOOT ON THE COFFEE TABLE?

NANCY SINATRA'S boots were made for walkin' but the folks at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram suggest getting a leg up on decorating this fall by using a cowboy boot as a centerpiece.

Make sure the leather or hide is clean (particularly if you know where the boot has been), and stuff the foot with crumbled newspaper. Slide a vase into the leg of the boot, making sure it sits securely on the newspaper, then fill with water and flowers.

For more color, use bandanas as napkins.

Be game

If you're having trouble locating wild boar or free-range chickens for your next dinner party, you might want to try Virginia's Buffalo Meats. This Roanoke-based mail-order firm carries a long list of farm-raised game including elk, kangaroo, rattlesnake, turtle, rabbit and alligator.

For an order form, call (504) 362-1387 and leave your name, phone number and a brief message on the machine.

Sorry, wrong number

If you tried to call the Full Circle AIDS Hospice to make plans for the ``Dinner is Served'' benefit I wrote about in last week's column, you probably heard an obnoxious screeching noise.

My apologies. I inadvertantly listed the hospice's fax number instead of the phone number. The correct number is, 622-2989. by CNB
