LET 'EM PRAY

Hallelujah for Larry Maddry! His column on the NCAA's fiasco on college football players' prayers and expressions of faith in the end zone hit the nail right on the head.

Americans have lost much faith in many institutions in this country - the justice system, the political system and even the educational systems in many of the colleges and universities these young people attend. That the ruling party in college athletics wants to deny these young men the right to express faith in one of the last few institutions that human beings from all walks of life can rely on shows a grave lack of understanding on their part.

As the Rev. Jerry Falwell stated, collegiate sports have enough problems on their hands without concerning themselves with players' small and quiet expressions of faith.

Perhaps the NCAA should concentrate on problems that really matter instead of nitpicking a practice which many fans, young and old, find admirable.
