``Corporate welfare lives'' (editorial, Aug. 27) just hits the top of the iceberg. Should we subsidize companies that are making billions of dollars in profits and taking jobs overseas? I hardly think so.
When an individual gets a loan, he has to pay the going rate at a bank or finance company. Why should corporations be any different? Must we subsidize them through our taxes?
Before we go to the voting booth in November 1996, we need to ask some pointed questions of those who ask the taxpayers to allow them to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. We should look at their past voting records and then determine if we want them to continue in office.
We need to find out if they want to retain jobs in this country so people can work and pay their taxes. How would they bring back some of the manufacturing jobs that have been exported overseas? How would they streamline government to make it more responsive to the people?
