Mattie Spencer Neal, 88, of the 1300 block of Indian Creek Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 1995, in a Chesapeake hospital.
Mrs. Neal was born in Englehard, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Sam and Sallie Gibbs Spencer and the widow of Edward E. Neal. She was predeceased by her son, Russell E. Neal and her brother, Thomas Earl Spencer. She was a member of Englehard Christian Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Landis and Vivian Pugh Neal of Chesapeake; her daughter-in-law, Evelyn Owens Neal of Chesapeake; three sisters, Agnes Etheridge and Isabelle Berry, both of Englehard, and Mildred Cox of Elizabeth City, N.C.; five grandchildren, Terree Neal, Vickie Williams, Robin Tucker, Russell Neal, and Peggy Parks; eight great-grandchildren, Raven Tucker, Neal Williams, Jordan Tucker, Ali Williams, Nicole Neal, Summer Neal, Brooke Neal, and Mandy Parks; and her companions, Vivian Taylor and Marcella Bailey.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 1995, in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, by the Rev. Tom Mercer. Interment will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and at other times at 504 Caleb Drive, Great Bridge.
