Kenneth Gordon Ames, 58, of the 800 block of Heidi Drive, died Sept. 12, 1995, in his residence.
He was a retired after 20 years as First Class Petty Officer for the U.S. Navy and he was also the retired owner of the Cradock Restaurant where he worked for 20 years. He was a native of Swampscott, Mass. and was the past governor of Portsmouth Moose Lodge 898. Mr. Ames was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 40. He was an avid bowler and a member of Tuesday Night Mixed League and the Wednesday Night Moose Mixed League at Pinboys in Western Branch.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Deyerle Ames; two daughters, Jadene Wilson of Miramar, Fla., Jolene Gunnell of Gatesville, N.C.; three sons, Kevin Ames of Middletown, R.I., Spencer Bass and Sterling Bass, both of Chesapeake; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Michael Robbins in Cradock United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the residence, 818 Heidi Drive, Chesapeake, today from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Ken's wishes are that donations in his honor be made to his wife, Rhonda Ames, c/o Bank of Hampton Roads. Ken was a friend to everyone and a joy to be around. He will be missed by many who have loved him. Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, is handling arrangements.
