BLUEFIN FISHING ENDING

The General Category fishery for Atlantic bluefin tuna closed at midnight Tuesday, officials with the National Marine Fisheries Service announced Wednesday.

The Angling Category for Atlantic bluefin tuna will close at midnight Sunday.

According to the National Marine Fisheries Service, General Category bluefin tuna fishermen have harvested 527 metric tons this year. The Angling Category quota already has been met for 1995.

To cover over-harvest in the North Incidental Longline category for bluefin tuna, fisheries officials transferred 15 metric tons from the South Incidental Category to the North.
