TRAINING TO HALT SOME FORT STORY TRAFFIC

Fort Story will be closed to cyclists and joggers through Sept. 28 for a training exercise that will bring more than 3,000 participants and added vehicular traffic to the post.

A joint Logistics-over-the-Shore exercise will involve unloading cargo from ships offshore and transporting the cargo via a floating causeway to shore. The equipment, which belongs to the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, N.C., will then be moved over land to Fort Pickett, near Blackstone.

Fort Story will remain open to motorists wishing to visit historical attractions. All visitors are requested to reduce speed and remain on Atlantic Avenue, and be alert for military vehicles. The Sandman Triathlon Bike Race will pass through the post as scheduled on Sunday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. by CNB
