John Dexter McFarland Sr., 85, of the 1200 block of Decatur St., died Sept. 14, 1995, in a Norfolk Hospital.
Mr. McFarland, a welder, retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 1987. He worked there for 42 years. He was the widower of Mrs. Laura Elizabeth McFarland, and a member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, Chesapeake. He was born in Martin's Ferry, Ohio.
Survivors include three daughters, JoAnne Branham and Bonnie Lou Park, both of Chesapeake, and Ruth Elaine Knickerbocker of Mississippi; one son, John D. McFarland Jr. of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, by the Rev. Ernie Myers. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
