NORTHEAST WINDS, CHOPPY SEAS RESULT IN GOOD FISHING ON PIERS

Northeast winds and choppy seas provided good spot fishing Friday on piers from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head.

Kitty Hawk Pier anglers caught lots of spot, some small pompano and a few flounder during the morning. Scattered spot were landed during the afternoon.

Avalon Pier also reported plenty of big spot taken before noon.

Spot, tailor bluefish and trout were landed mainly during the morning on Nags Head Pier. Afternoon fishing was slow.

A good run of spot hit Jennette's Pier during the afternoon.

Spot, small blues, some speckled trout, pompano and a few nice mullet were caught by fishermen on Outer Banks Pier during the day.

Pier fishing was slow south of Oregon Inlet. A few bluefish were landed on Rodanthe Pier. Anglers on Avon Pier caught a few spot, bluefish and sea mullet. Frisco Pier reported a handful of spot, croaker and small gray trout taken.

A few spot, sea mullet and pompano were landed by surf-casters along the northern beaches.

Puppy drum were beached around Oregon Inlet Thursday night. Bottom fish were taken Friday from both the north and south sides of the inlet.

Bluefish, pompano, puppy drum and small bottom fish were landed along the beach south of Rodanthe to Buxton.

Some Spanish mackerel were beached Thursday evening at Cape Point. Tailor blues, bottom fish, a few keeper flounder, pompano and albacore were taken Friday.

Spanish mackerel and tailor bluefish were landed from the surf in the Hatteras Inlet area Friday morning.

Inshore trolling for small bluefish was good in Oregon Inlet Friday.

A few Spanish mackerel also were taken. Headboat fishing was slow, with a few big croaker landed in Croatan Sound and some pigfish taken near the Oregon Inlet bridge.

The water temperature Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 76.5 degrees. by CNB
