PAT BUCHANAN WAS A BULLY? SO WHAT?

The liberal columnists you continue to publish really make me laugh. I refer specifically to Maureen Dowd's column on Pat Buchanan (Perspectives, Sept. 9).

She, along with every other liberal, has been complaining about the ``mean-spirited,'' ``hate-radio'' talk-show hosts who have been delving into Clinton's past womanizing, dope smoking, financial dealings and so on.

She then writes a column telling us what bullies Pat Buchanan and his brothers were as they terrorized the Catholic community of Washington, D.C.

At least the hate-radio talk-show hosts go back only to Clinton's college days! What is next, asking Pat Buchanan's Jesuit teachers if he was a problem child in school and how many times did he get the ruler?

I would rather have a president who was a bully as a kid than one who as a kid always wanted to be a politician.

Ms. Dowd laments that she believes Pat Buchanan wants to take this country back to the terrible days of her youth, when bullies roamed the streets getting in fights and the opportunities for women were limited.

The bullies roaming the streets today are shooting people rather than beating them up. In the ``terrible'' '50s, at least a woman could walk the streets of Washington, D.C., without fear of being raped, mugged or killed!

I would rather have my daughters grow up in that ``terrible'' society of the '50s than in this valueless excuse of a society we have today.
