Police closed a portion of Twin Pines Road on Friday when construction workers accidentally hit a gas line in front of the Towne Point Square shopping center. The street was closed for about 45 minutes and reopened at about 9 a.m.
Police also asked residents across the street from the shopping center to evacuate their homes.
A strong wind Friday morning helped put an end to the incident by blowing the gas away from the residential area, a police officer said.
