The Sept. 3 ``He Said, She Said'' column revealed a bias I did not expect to find. The subject was the age children should be left home or with a sitter.
Some states have decided that perhaps 14 is too young for a child or the sitter. I find myself agreeing with Mr. Addis: Only a parent can determine this fact. I raised two children, and my 14-year-old was quite capable of taking care of his brother of 7 years.
Ms. Dougherty. seemed to agree with Mr. Addis, but then she put in a little jab that I did not appreciate - ``Here's the question: Would you rather leave your 13-year-old daughter home alone or have Bob Packwood, Chuck Robb and Ned Reynolds keep her company?''
The slur is quite obvious. What I don't get is how it relates to the subject.
If Ms. Dougherty would like to write that kind of unprecedented remark, perhaps she should have her column on the editorial page right next to Cal Thomas. At the very least she owes Senator Robb an apology. He does not deserve that kind of mud-slinging. Nor does his family.
