CAREER TRACK

HEALTH CARE

Dr. Robert L. Dowdy has joined the Tidewater Medical Group as a family practitioner at Haygood Family Practice in Virginia Beach. He was previously employed at the Van Voorhis Family Practice Center Evening Clinic and the Morgan Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown, W.Va. He recently completed his residency in family medicine at West Virginia University.

Dr. David West was elected president of the medical staff at Chesapeake General Hospital for the 1995-1996 fiscal year. West is board certified in internal medicine and geriatrics. He has been in practice for seven years and has been on staff at the hospital for seven years.

Dr. Laurie A. Goldsticker has joined the medical staff at Providence Road Family Practice, a Sentara medical group in Virginia Beach. Goldsticker attended the Medical College of Virginia and received her medical degree in 1992. She did her residency at Riverside Hospital in Newport News.

Dr. Richard T. Packer has also joined the medical staff at Providence Road Family Practice. Packer attended McMaster University Medical School, Hamilton, Ontario and completed his medical internship at the family medicine residency program at McMaster University.

Also, Dr. Tamara W. Packer has joined the medical staff at Providence Road Family Practice. She also received her medical degree from McMaster University. She also completed her internship in pediatrics and a residency in family medicine at McMaster.

LAW

Jody M. Wagner, a partner in the corporate section and securities practice group of Kaufman & Canoles, was elected as vice chair of the business law section of the Virginia State Bar. Wagner has been with the Norfolk law firm since 1983.

Cynthia M. Mattos was named director of estate and trust administration at Willcox & Savage. Prior to joining the Norfolk law firm, Mattos had established her own practice in estate and trust administration. She had also worked at Hunton & Williams in Richmond after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law.

MEDIA

Franklin R. Bowers, vice president and general manager of Cox Communications, was elected president of the Southern Cable Telecommunications Association which serves 12 states. Bowers joined Cox in 1981 as vice president of Cox Cable's Louisiana operations. He was appointed to his present position in 1986.

BANKING

Jeremy R. Starkey was named manager and branch officer of Cenit Bank's financial district office, Main Street Tower, in Norfolk. Previously, Starkey was manager of the bank's Kiln Creek Office in York County.

GOVERNMENT

T. Parker Host Jr., chairman of the board of T. Parker Host Inc., was appointed by Gov. George Allen to a four-year term as a member of the State Board of Transportation Safety an advisory board to the secretary of transportation. Host was appointed as the maritime representative for the southeastern district of the state.

MUSEUM

Suzanne Savage of Newport News was named associate director of development at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation in Williamsburg. She will be responsible for the foundation's annual giving and membership programs. She was formerly director of development for the Peninsula Fine Arts Center and annual fund director at the Virginia Opera.

Also, James Holloway of Williamsburg was named history education coordinator at Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. He will work primarily in the foundation's outreach education program and make presentations in schools around the state. He had previously been a historical interpreter at the Jamestown Settlement.

ORGANIZATIONS

The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Portsmouth Division, board of directors appointed Adam J. Goldblatt, assistant vice president of Commerce Bank and William H. Duis, director of engineering and planning for Virginia Power, as board members.

REAL ESTATE

Patrick L. Mumey was elected president of Virginia Commercial Real Estate Services in Virginia Beach. Also, Ronald L. Ellis was promoted from society of industrial and office Realtors to senior vice president.

SHIPBUILDING

James J. Gildea was named assistant general counsel of Newport News Shipbuilding. Gildea will be responsible for government contracting matters including subcontracting and purchasing. He has more than 10 years of experience in legal issues relating to government contracts, both in private practice for contractors and as a U.S. government procurement attorney. Prior to joining Newport News Shipbuilding, he was associated with the firm of Wiley, Rein & Feilding in Washington, D.C.
