Eleanor Christine Westwig, 101, of E. Admiral Drive, Virginia Beach, died Saturday at Brighton Medical Center in Portland, Maine.
She was born in Bronnoysund, Norway, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Haas. She came to this country in 1915 from Norway and made her home in Minneapolis, Minn. She moved to South Portland, Maine, in 1938. She was a resident of Virginia Beach, Va. for seven years and lived for some time in Cape Elizabeth and York, Maine. Mrs. Westwig was a member of First Lutheran Church in Portland. She was predeceased by her husband, Ludwig T. Westwig, who died in 1943.
She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn K. Leighton of York, Maine and Helen Wallace of Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two nieces; five nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland, Maine. Interment is in Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth, Maine.
