LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - NORFOLK

She's happy with Heilig

Now that election time is coming around again, we would like people in Norfolk's 86th District to know how fortunate we are to have George Heilig Jr. as our representative in Richmond.

If you have a problem with a state agency, he is quick to help you. He knows his job well and has an experienced secretary who also is anxious to help.

We are lucky to have George Heilig working for us, as quickly as we can pick up the telephone.

On Nov. 6, we will have the opportunity to re-elect Sen. Stanley Walker. He has served the state's 6th Senatorial District with sincere concern and interest for each person in this district and Norfolk.

Education is important for Norfolk's future. For years, Sen. Walker has been successful in obtaining funds for our universities, community college, Children's Hospital and other community facilities that make Norfolk a thriving city.

Support Sen. Stanley Walker at the polls in November.

I think it's very obvious, reading the letters attacking Randy Wright, that there is an organized central theme that Al Teich and his paid dirty tricksters are trying to project. All of his paid letter writers are trying to portray Randy Wright as somehow being ``unqualified'' for the job as clerk of the court.

This is an outright smear campaign by Teich and needs to be stopped. Randy Wright is by far the most qualified, proven community leader that Norfolk has and has run his own business, met payrolls and served the community with no question about his ``qualifications.'' Apparently Mr. Teich has no platform other than pointing the finger at Wright and screaming ``unqualified'' by using paid political hacks.

Other than serving two years in the General Assembly back in the 1970s, Mr. Teich has been invisible in the community. I haven't seen him at council meetings, PTA meetings, SEVAMP meetings or any civic league meetings except recently, now that he wants our vote. No thanks, I don't care for Mr. Teich's dirty smear campaign tactics. I'll take Randy Wright. He not only is qualified to be the clerk of the court, he has been honest with the people even when it wasn't popular.

Experience is needed for the position of clerk of the Norfolk Circuit Court. Al Teich is the candidate with the most suitable experience.

When our country was involved in the Korean War, Al Teich was in Korea serving our country. He was at that time an air intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force.

Al Teich has worked for our community for many years. He is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates and has served as director of the March of Dimes and Tidewater Heart Association campaigns. He also has worked for the Tidewater Legal Aid Society.

Al Teich has been involved in the Norfolk Circuit Court system for 38 years. He is a member of the Norfolk/Portsmouth Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar.

After many years of teaching business law and other courses at Old Dominion University, Al Teich was named professor emeritus.

Without doubt, Al Teich is the best of the candidates for the clerk of the Norfolk Circuit Court.

On July 29, while waiting to pick up our luggage at the Norfolk Airport, I had cardiac arrest. My daughter-in-law asked for help as I was down on the floor, and by the grace of God a nurse and a doctor were among the crowd and immediately proceeded to give me CPR, for which I am deeply grateful.

In the excitement, my family failed to get their names. I would like to thank them for giving me a little more time with my family and would also like to thank the paramedics of 911 and the emergency room staff of Sentara Leigh Hospital.
