In ``School needs rules'' (editorial, Sept. 8), you state: ``If they find the rules too intrusive or confining they are free to seek private schools more to their liking.'' That offended me.
As a graduate of Christ the King, 1973, Norfolk Catholic High School, 1977, a parent of children who attend parochial school and a teacher at parochial school, I find that statement totally unfounded.
Academics, honor, behavior, dress and parental-involvement codes found in our system have in the past, as now and I dare say as in the future, been more stringent than those of our public-school counterparts.
As a result of these policies, our students, on the whole, continue to surpass their public-educated peers in all academic areas as evidenced by their standardized test scores.
It is this mosaic of faculty, parents and children that truly makes our system ``the good news in education.''
