Bernard Christopher ``B.C.'' Moring Jr., 70, of 200 Porter Road, died of cancer Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1995, at his home.
He was born in Norfolk and was the son of the late Bernard C. and Mary Harris Moring. Mr. Moring was retired from Vansant & Gussler as an electrical engineer and manager of the electrical department. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was discharged as a Captain. Mr. Moring graduated from Maury High School, attended Duke University and received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan.
He was a member of the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers and the Consulting Engineers Council of Virginia. Mr. Moring served on the Portsmouth Planning Commission and was a former chairman of the Board of Electrical Examiners. He was a Charter Member of the Merrimac Kiwanis Club; was a member of the Executive Club of Portsmouth and the Portsmouth Sports Club. Mr. Moring was a member of Monumental United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Margaret Elsasser Moring; his sons, B. Christopher Moring III, and his wife, Kate Kabler Moring, of Norfolk; Michael L. Moring, and his wife, Annette Tonkin Moring, of Portsmouth; Mark B. Moring, and his wife, Nina Donner Moring, of Carol Stream, Ill.; and his daughter, Melissa Moring Hubbard, and her husband, Kevin L. Hubbard, of Chesapeake; and his eight grandchildren, B. Christopher Moring IV, M. Brandon Moring, T. Ryan Moring, T. Pretlow Moring, K. Loren Hubbard, Jr., M. Peter Moring, Sarah H. Hubbard and J. Paul Moring, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, in Monumental United Methodist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Raymond H. Edmonds. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. The Moring family requests that any memorial donations be given to the Children's Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth or any charities of choice.
