SPOT CONTINUE GOOD RUN ALONG NORTHERN BEACHES

Spot fishing was good on ocean piers along the northern beaches Wednesday as winds fell and sea conditions improved.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported good catches of spot along with scattered bluefish and puppy drum Wednesday afternoon.

Anglers on Avalon Pier caught scattered bluefish, a few puppy drum and some speckled trout weighing as much as 4.25 pounds during the morning. Quite a few big spot were taken later in the day from the end of the pier.

A few spot, puppy drum and bluefish were caught on Nags Head Pier during the morning. Plenty of spot and a few sea mullet were taken throughout the afternoon.

Scattered mullet, pompano, small black drum and spot were taken sporadically during the day on Jennette's Pier.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught small black drum, pompano, a few mullet and keeper puppy drum weighing as much as 5 1/2 pounds.

On Hatteras Island, good numbers of puppy drum, bluefish, croaker and lots of spot were landed on Rodanthe Pier. Avon Pier reported some puppy drum and bluefish taken during the afternoon. Lots of small blues, a few puppy drum and keeper flounder were caught from Frisco Pier.

Some puppy drum and small bottom fish were landed by surfcasters from Corolla to Oregon Inlet. Keeper flounder, croaker and a few puppy drum were taken from the inlet's south side.

Puppy drum fishing was fairly good along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton. Puppy drum action at Cape Point also was good. Plenty of small bluefish, a few keeper flounder, speckled trout and puppy drum were beached by anglers at Hatteras Inlet.

Inshore trolling for tailor bluefish was good in the Oregon Inlet area. Additionally, fair numbers of Spanish mackerel were landed by half-day charters.

The headboat Miss Oregon Inlet fished channels around the Bonner Bridge at Oregon Inlet, landing some croaker, small gray trout and pigfish. The headboat Crystal Dawn produced a good catch of nice croaker and small gray trout in the Croatan Sound north of Mashoes.

No offshore trips were run out of Oregon Inlet or Hatteras Wednesday. Offshore action should resume today.

Pier fishing for spot should continue at a steady pace as long as winds continue to be northeasterly.
