A minifestival will pack a maximum of entertainment into six hours Saturday at the Naval Shipyard.
The MultiCultural/Disability Awareness Festival at Trophy Park will be open and free to the public from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. The day is a culmination of a weeklong celebration of diversity.
Capt. William R. Klemm, the shipyard commander, said the week will be ``the primary means for the shipyard to meet the increasing need for diversity awareness training.''
``Our approach promotes organizational communications, positive personal relationships and viable working relations among employees in an atmosphere of celebration,'' Klemm said.
This week's celebration is the first of what will become an annual event, Klemm said.
``It is an excellent opportunity to boost the morale of the work force and help all of us understand the importance of recognizing and valuing individual differences,'' Klemm said.
Three stages and food vendors serving food from around the world will be set up in Trophy Park, accessible from First Street through Gate 3.
An opening ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday will feature a Parade of Nations and students from Emily Spong Elementary School.
