Repairs to the Jordan Bridge, now closed to vehicular traffic, will close the Elizabeth River channel to navigation for three days in October and again at a later date.
The U.S. Coast Guard announced that the channel through the Jordan Bridge crossing on the Southern Branch will be closed to navigation from 6 a.m. Oct. 9 through 6 p.m. Oct. 11, when the lift span of the bridge will be removed by barge and floated out of the channel.
The channel will be reopened to vessels while a contractor repairs the bridge and then closed again for three days while the lift span is floated back into position.
The Coast Guard will give advance notice of the second closing of the channel.
