LEONARD T. HAYWOOD

Leonard T. Haywood, 77, of the 1500 block of Cavalier Blvd., died Sept. 21, 1995, in Naval Regional Medical Center, Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth.

He was retired 20 years from the U.S. Navy and was a native of Lee County, N.C. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where he was also a member of all choirs, various auxilliaries and organizations of the church.

He is survived by his wife, Elnora S. Haywood; four step-daughters Danielle Rivers, Janice Drewery, Lenora Cooke and Vivian Melton, all of Portsmouth; two sons, Phillip E. Haywood of Atlanta, and Leonard D. Haywood of Maryland; two stepsons, Fred O. Smith of Florida; and Rev. Russell A. Smith of Oklahoma; three sisters, Lena Montez Reed and Melicent R. Haywood, both of New York, and Zenobia H. Elliott of Portsmouth; four brothers, Denton L. Haywood of North Carolina, Earl G. Haywood and Desvernie Haywood, both of New York, and Samuel Q. Haywood, of Portsmouth; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A funeral service will be held noon Monday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer Sr. Burial is in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, with Military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, will begin at noon Sunday. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Monday.
