Shanel A. - ``Nella'' Ellis, 18, of the 100 block of Lexington Drive, died Sept. 17, 1995, in Petersburg, Va.

She was a freshman student at V.S.U. where she was majoring in accounting. She was a native of Portsmouth and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth. She was a junior trainee nurse and a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in 1995. She was a member of the Army Junior R.O.T.C. in which she was 1st Lieutenant at Woodrow Wilson.

She is survived by her parents, Brenda Ellis and Phillip E. Ellis Jr., both of Portsmouth; two sisters, L'Tanya Branch of Portsmouth, Shamika Ellis of Portsmouth; godparents, Lois T. Bailey of Portsmouth, Sherrie Edwards of Portsmouth; two brothers, Duane Harris of Portsmouth, Phillip E. Ellis III of Portsmouth; sister-in-law, Cessel Seward of Portsmouth; grandmother, Clarice E. Harris of Portsmouth; three aunts, Juanita Curl of California, Dorothea Harris of Portsmouth, Bertha Harris of Portsmouth; two great-aunts, Louise Jordan of Norfolk, Christine Mason of Philadelphia; five uncles, Alvin Tucker, Lloyd Tucker, both of Philadelphia, Mark Harris, George Harris, George Ramsey, all of Portsmouth; two nephews, Duane Seward, ShaJuan Ervin, both of Portsmouth; and three nieces, Dewanna Seward, Marquita Branch, and Mercedes Branch, all of Portsmouth. Special friends are Bobby D. Byrd, Eric Whitney, Leonardus Peele, Ronald Boykins, Alicia Boykins, Katrina Simmons, Monisha Taylor, and Cheryll Trower.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday Pastor W.S. Hampton in Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Burial is in Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Portsmouth. Viewing will be today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 105 Lexington Drive, Portsmouth, at 1:15 p.m. for the procession to the church.
