Additionally, two local members have been named to posts within the National Information Officers Association.
The group met recently in Nashville where Lou Thurston and Mike Carey, spokesmen for the Virginia Beach police, made a presentation in hopes of winning next year's conference for Virginia Beach.
On Thursday, Carey announced that the National Information Officers Association board had voted unanimously to hold the conference in Virginia Beach. The location and dates have not been set.
Carey also was selected to be one of eight regional directors of the association while Thurston was elected unanimously as the organization's vice president.
The National Information Officers Association is open to full- or part-time public information officers employed by any local, county, state or federal emergency services agency in the U.S. and Canada. by CNB
