U.S. VETS GIVE VIETS MAPS TO HELP THEM LOCATE THEIR MIAS

U.S. veterans handed over battlefield souvenirs Thursday and a briefcase filled with maps that they said could help account for 500 North Vietnamese soldiers missing from the war.

Maj. Gen. Nguyen Trong Vinh told the Americans that Vietnamese veterans would step up their efforts to locate the remains of U.S. servicemen who never returned from the war that ended 20 years ago.

He gave the delegation from the Vietnam Veterans Association information apparently copied from newly discovered dog tags of two missing Marines.

James Brazee, president of the VVA, said since beginning the project in May 1994 his group has provided information relating to more than 7,500 missing Vietnamese. The Vietnamese have used the information to locate at least three mass burial sites containing the bodies of 191 killed by American troops. by CNB
