William Henry ``Henry'' Thornton, 71, of the 2800 block of Llewellyn Ave., died Sept. 20, 1995, in Hampton.
Mr. Thornton, a retired self-employed cement finisher, worked for 30 years. He was born in Norfolk and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Odessa E. Thornton; one daughter, Cynthia Bishop of Norfolk; one son, William H. Thornton Jr.; and his wife, Nina J. Thornton of Norfolk; three sisters, Alberta Thornton of Norfolk, Mary Thornton and Lucille Palmer, both of Washington, D.C.; one adopted brother, John D. Mayer III of Norfolk; four grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Grant of New York and Lovie Francis of Norfolk; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Victoria Evans Thornton; and his father, Malachi Thornton.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Hale Funeral Home Chapel, Norfolk, by the Rev. James T. Daniels. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence. ILLUSTRATION: Personal photo
