Matoaca held Nansemond River to 37 total yards in the first half and rolled to a 21-8 victory over the Warriors on Friday.
Nansemond River (1-2) managed only 2 yards rushing on 17 carries and committed three turnovers in the first half as Matoaca (4-0) built a 14-0 halftime lead.
``Our offense wasn't there tonight,'' Nansemond River coach Jerry Varacallo said. ``We couldn't execute, we didn't block and nobody was doing anything right. We didn't show up until the end of the game.''
Nansemond River's only score came with two minutes left when Leroy Skinner's 6-yard run over the left side capped a 15-play, 75-yard drive.
The Warriors finished with 38 yards rushing on 29 carries.
Matoaca, also nicknamed the Warriors, scored on its opening drive. They drove 58 yards before Nansemond River popped the ball loose from Byron Thweatt at the 1-yard line. Matoaca's Shamus Jones picked up the fumble and went into the end zone for a touchdown.
Matoaca added to its lead in the second quarter after a 14-yard punt into the wind and rain by Nansemond River. On the first play from the Nansemond River 25, Roger Brown gained 3 yards before he lateralled back to quarterback Mike Medley, who ran 22 yards for the touchdown.
Thweatt carried 13 times for 94 yards and caught a pass for 24 yards for Matoaca. by CNB
