AUCTION TO BENEFIT FAMILIES

An auction will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Big Charlie's Truck Plaza, 5792 Northampton Blvd., to benefit two families of Virginia Beach police officers who lost loved ones in separate accidents.

Jake Slayton, the 2-year-old son of a Virginia Beach police officer, accidentally drowned Sept. 7 in a lake near the family's home. In an unrelated accident on the same day, Virginia Beach Police Officer Danny Burton, 30, was killed in a motorcycle accident while off duty.

Proceeds from the sale of donated items such items as diamond rings, a motorcycle, freezers and antiques will be used to help both families.
