Ruby Hodges Bishop, 93, of the 700 block of Glen Eden Drive, died at home Sept. 23, 1995.
Mrs. Bishop, the widow of W. Ray Bishop, was born near Washington, N.C., to Fenner and Dora L. Hodges. She graduated from Washington High School, obtained her teaching certificate at East Carolina University, and taught in the Eastern part of the state prior to her marriage. In 1975 she and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. A resident of Raleigh for the past 68 years, Ruby had been active in several garden clubs, The Raleigh Woman's Club, and church work. She was a charter member of St. Paul's Christian Church, and traveled extensively over the years. She worked at several retail establishments and was at one time owner and manager of Bishop's Fine Fabrics.
Ruby is survived by three daughters, Janice B. Rudd of Raleigh, Joan B. Caldwell of Virginia Beach, and Gladys B. Lee of Inverness, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grand-children.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Christian Church with internment at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Christian Church, 3331 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27612.
