Gladys Simmons Furman, 75, of the 4100 block of Scott St., died Sept. 22, 1995, in her residence.
Mrs. Furman, a retired sales associate at Altschuls Department Store, was born in New Bern, N.C. She was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church, a member and past royal matron of Cavalier Court (NU)6, and past grand royal matron of Virginia, Order of the Amaranthe, and member of the Beazley Senior Center.
Survivors include her husband, William B. Furman Jr.; one daughter, Jackie F. Hewitt and her husband, Don W. Hewitt, both of Chesapeake; three grandsons, W. Scott Hewitt, K. Todd Hewitt, and Ryan D. Hewitt, all of Portsmouth; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by the Rev. Clayton M. Robertson. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 4 to 5 p.m. today.
