CRIME LINE

Police ask for public help in solving these cases:

PORTSMOUTH

Since July 1, six homes in the Hodges Manor and Elizabeth Manor sections have been broken into.

The latest break-in was in the 100 block of Bobwhite Court.

The break-ins have occurred weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Items taken include jewelry, clothing, money, video games, and coin and baseball card collections.

In most cases, thieves have entered through a side or rear door.

VIRGINIA BEACH

On Friday, Sept. 1, about 1:30 a.m., the Fire Department was called to Princess Anne High School in the 4400 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. for a three-alarm fire.

The fire caused more than $3 million damage.

Arson investigators have determined that someone broke into the back of the school and set the fire.

THIS WEEK'S MOST WANTED

Arrest warrants were on file as of Thursday for the following person. Included is his name, race, date of birth and charges pending. Appearance on the list does not imply guilt.

Burkett, Richard Tim - white; Sept. 6, 1962; 6 feet 4 inches tall, 217 pounds; failure to appear in court for a preliminary hearing.

NORFOLK

On Sept. 15, at 1 a.m., a man entered the East Coast gas station in the 2600 block of Tidewater Drive.

He demanded money from a cashier, implying that he had a weapon. After receiving the money, he fled south on Tidewater Drive.

The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall and about 180 pounds. He had a light complexion, short hair and a goatee. He wore blue jeans and a blue-jean shirt with a red polo emblem.

CHESAPEAKE

On Sept. 3, about 5 a.m., a woman was sitting in her vehicle in front of Building 114 in the 2500 block of Gilmerton Road when a man approached and asked for a cigarette.

He entered her car and took a large amount of money from her wallet. He was last seen riding away on a bicycle on Gilmerton Road toward North George Washington Highway.

The man is described as black, light-skinned, in his early 20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall and thin - 170 pounds - with a thin goatee, his hair in long dreadlocks. He had high cheekbones. He wore green, baggy jeans and a green polo shirt.

In the past week, about 12 newspaper boxes have been stolen from outdoor locations in Chesapeake and Portsmouth.

The boxes have been taken from the fronts of restaurants, convenience stores, drug stores and apartment complexes.

Most of the boxes stolen are owned by The Virginian-Pilot, but several were owned by The Daily Press in Newport News.

Several locations are in Churchland, including the Farmco store on West Norfolk Road, the Wilco store on Western Branch Boulevard, the Waffle Town USA restaurant on Western Branch Boulevard and the Revco store in the Poplar Hill Shopping Center.

A box outside the Family Dollar store on George Washington Highway also was stolen.

SUFFOLK

On Sept. 17, someone entered the Allwood Cabinet Corp. in the 1600 block of Pitchkettle Road.

The thieves stole items including: a Hitachi cordless drill, two Panasonic cordless drills, a Porter cable cordless drill, guns left in the office including a 20-gauge Mossberg bolt action shotgun in a tan case, a Browning over-and-under, 12-gauge shotgun and a Winchester 16-gauge, single-barrel shotgun.

HAMPTON

During the early morning of Aug. 21 in the vicinity of Hope and Howard streets, a woman was accosted and raped by man armed with a small-caliber handgun.

The man is described as white, 24 to 30 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 190 pounds with long blond hair. He wore a white T-shirt and blue-jean shorts. by CNB
