JOHN G. CROMWELL SR.

John G. Cromwell Sr., 74, of the 100 block of Orchard St., a retired florist, died Sept. 22, 1995, in his residence.

Mr. Cromwell was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. Mr. Cromwell was a third-generation farmer and florist. His death brings an end to an era for his family and the family flower business. He owned and operated the same business that his ancestors started in 1888 that grew and sold flowers for over 100 years. His home and garden at the foot of the Granby Street Bridge will be etched in the memory of many. He was the recent widower of Dorothy Elizabeth Cromwell, and was a member of Talbot Park Baptist Church, Norfolk.

Mr. Cromwell was a member of the Corinthian Lodge (NU)266, the Scottish Rite Bodies, the Khedive Temple, and Legion of Honor. He was a member and two-term past president of the Norfolk Shrine.

Survivors include a daughter, Constance Cromwell Flanders of Norfolk; three sons, John G. Cromwell Jr. of Norfolk, Edward F. Cromwell of Orange Park, Fla., Ben Lee Cromwell of Danville, Va.; and six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A chapel service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, by the Rev. Keith Martin and the Rev. Richard O. Bridge-ford. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
