JAMES D. VICKERS SR.

James David ``J.D.'' Vickers Sr., of the 20000 block of Sedley Road, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 1995, at Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

Mr. Vickers was the son of the late Marion Ezra Vickers. He was born in Logan, W.Va. He was a retired car repairman with the C&O Railroad, a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26, U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, founder of the Old Time Gospel Quartet, and a member of the Church of God-Franklin.

Survivors include his wife, Vera B. Vickers; his mother, Grace McComas Vickers of Ravenswood, W.Va.; one daughter, Tamara Gail Kuester of Chesapeake; three sons, J. David Vickers Jr. of Perrysburg, Ohio, Stephen L. Vickers of Brooksville, Fla., Kevin G. Vickers of Toledo, Ohio; six sisters, Arbutus Moore of Ravenswood, W.Va., Jean Vandelinde of Emerald Isle, N.C., Syvilla Morris of Chesapeake, Roberda Curry of Hamlin, W.Va., Jannette Lovejoy of Ona, W.Va., Nyoka Nafranowicz of Crystal, Minn.; two brothers, Keith Vickers of Chesapeake and Dane Vickers of Virginia Beach; one stepdaughter, Vanessa Mae Ezzell of Franklin; a stepson, Stevie L. Ezzell of Courtland; and six grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of God-Franklin. The Rev. Rob Taylor and the Rev. Randy Wooden will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Twiford Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made in memory of James D. Vickers to the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, Virginia Beach, Va. or the Veterans Hospital, 100 Emancipation Drive, Hampton, Va. 23667. The family will assemble at the home of the brother, Dane Vickers, 2024 Echo Cove, Virginia Beach, after the funeral service.
