Elsie Branch Johnson, 73, of the 100 block of E. 40th St., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Charlottesville, Va., the daughter of Percy Sr. and Mollie Anderson-Branch. She was the widow of Van J. Johnson Sr. and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Episcopal Church Women, St. Helena's Guild and the Wednesday Morning Bible Class. Mrs. Johnson had been employed by the City of Norfolk as a school traffic crossing guard and also as a clerk at the Kirn Memorial Library. She retired in 1989 after 13 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Erica Branch Johnson of Washington; a son, Van J. Johnson Jr. of Portsmouth; a sister, Mollie Ashton of Connecticut; two brothers, John Branch of New Jersey and Alfred Branch of Florida; and grandchildren, Bonnie Harris of Washington, Sonja Johnson and Christy Johnson, both of Richmond.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grace Episcopal Church, 1400 Brambleton Ave., by the Rev. Fr. Harold J. Cobb. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
