Rufus Worthley Staton Jr., 73, of the 2300 block of Leckie St., died Saturday, Sept. 23, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Staton, a native of Scotland Neck, N.C., was retired as the owner of Sun Roofing Co. He was a member of Cottage Place United Methodist Church and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Portsmouth Lions Club, Tidal Wave Masonic Lodge (NU)273, Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies and Khedive Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Marie F. Staton; three daughters, Ruth White of Portsmouth, Betty Parker of Sunbury, N.C., and Teresa Monds of Suffolk; three sisters, Sylverene Bridgers of Norfolk, Ada Callis of Florida and Etta Elizabeth Breeden of Richmond; and 11 grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. James D. Thomas. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Cottage Place United Methodist Church or Portsmouth Lions Club.
