Waverly R. Councill Sr., 71, of 212 Stonewall St., died Sept. 22, 1995, in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was a native of Southampton County and was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Althea Councill; and his brother, Nathanial Councill. He worked at Cement Finisher for 55 years and he was retired from James Greene Contractor Co. after 10 years. Mr. Councill was a member of Rose of Sharon Holiness Church where he served on the deacon board and was a member of the trustee board.
He is survived by his wife, Martha L. Councill; three sons, Waverly Council Jr., Rudolph Councill of Franklin, and Kenneth Councill of New York; two daughters, Mildred Claude and Thelma L. Cooper of Franklin, Va; three brothers, Ernest Councill of Franklin, Raymond Councill of Portsmouth and George Councill of Portsmouth; four sisters, Elizabeth Manley, Leola Thomas, Etta Mae Murphy, all of Franklin, Va., and Magolia Smith of New Jersey; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-great granchildren.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mt. Olive Holiness Church by the Bishop Richard C. Poss. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home.
