Ruth Nickelson Strong, 81, of 5557 Godwin Blvd., died Sept. 23, 1995, in Maryview Hospital.
She was a native of Nansemond County. She was preceded in death by her father, Rossie Nickelson; her mother, Annie Parker Nickelson; and her husband, James O. Strong. Mrs. Strong was retired from Planters and was a member of Little Bethel Baptist Church, Suffolk, where she served on the usher board. She was also a member of Daughters of Salem Tent (NU)61.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Alice Taylor of Philadelphia; one son, Clarence Strong of Chesapeake; three sisters, Mrs. Louise Brown of Nassal, N.Y., Mrs. Beatrice Tyler of Nassal, N.Y., and Mrs. Endie Gates of Suffolk; one brother, Charlie Nickleson of Long Island, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Little Bethel Baptist Church, Suffolk, by the Rev. Kim D. Shivers. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Suffolk. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
