Smithfield Police want help in finding a man in connection with an Aug. 30 shooting in Smithfield.
Terry Lavon Warren, 20, of Isle of Wight County, has been charged with one count of malicious wounding and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, Smithfield Police Lt. Phil Hardison said.
According to Hardison, Meredith Picott, 28, of Windsor, was riding his motorcycle about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 30 on Middle and Main streets in Old Jersey Park, when he was confronted by a male carrying a black, 9mm pistol. Hardison said the man, whom Picott said he did not know, shot Picott twice in the leg, then left the scene in a car with three other occupants. They have not been charged in the incident, Hardison said.
Warren is described as black, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 147 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Warren is also being sought in Portsmouth in connection with an alleged probation violation.
Anyone with information that could lead to Warren's arrest should call the Smithfield Police Department Crimeline at 357-2429.
All callers remain anonymous, and Crimeline pays up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect. by CNB
