DAVID SHERRY

David Sherry, born June 7, 1912, in the lower east side of New York City, passed away Sept. 26, 1995, after a brief illness in Hillhaven Nursing Home.

Dave came to Norfolk in 1945, where he operated the Albany Navy Tailors for almost 30 years. He then opened the Kings Head Inn with his son-in-law John Evans, which they ran for 19 years. In conjunction with Cellar Door Concerts, the Kings Head Inn became well known for showcasing local and national rock and roll acts. In his youth, Dave was a member of the Clark House Red Devils Basketball Team in the City League of New York. Later he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and was a member of the Jewish War Veterans. He was also a member of the AF and AM Masonic Lodge (NU)1, and a life member of the H.H. Humphrey Lodge (NU)659 of Knights of Pythians.

Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jane, his beloved son, Neil, and six brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Lynn Sherry Evans and her husband, John, of Norfolk; two beloved grandchildren, Noel and Jamie Evans, as well as several nieces and nephews. His family will always cherish him and he will live in their hearts always.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman. Memorial donations may be made to the Ohef Sholom Temple in Norfolk, Hillhaven Nursing Center, and Jewish Family Services. The family will receive friends at 1411 Westover Ave., in Norfolk. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
