Fred Elmo Johnson, 77, of the 3100 block of Elliott Ave., died Sept. 27, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Johnson was a retired pipefitter of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was also retired from Whites Nursery in Deep Creek. He was a member of Lee Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps.; Sunbeam Hunt Club; past president of the Alexander Park, and the Brentwood Fire Dept. He was a lifetime member of Brentwood Fire Dept. Mr. Johnson was a native of Princeton, W.Va., and was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Lee Johnson; three daughters, Rosetta J. Smith and son-in-law, Oliver Smith of Chesapeake, Darlene J. Wylie of Portsmouth, and Debbie Johnson of Richmond, Va.; one son, W. Dwight Johnson of Grove City, Ohio; three sisters, Marie Williams of Orlando, Fla., Lillie Mae White of Princeton, W.Va., and Tomi Alex of Erie, Pa.; two brothers, James H. Johnson of Ooltewah, Tenn., and Cecil Johnson of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday by Dr. Ray O. Jones in Lee Memorial Baptist Church. Burial is in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be at Loving Funeral Home Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. and they suggest memorial contributions to Lee Memorial Baptist Church.
