Ellen Peele Austin, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1995, at a Nags Head nursing facility.
Mrs. Austin was born in Hatteras, N.C., and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Hatteras Homemakers Club. She was the daughter of the late Luther Peele and the late Elizabeth Peele, and she was the wife of the late Luther L. Austin Sr.
Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by one son, Luther Lathan Austin Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth A. Midgett and T. Stockton Midgett of Hatteras, N.C.; one sister, Eliza Ballance of Elizabeth City, N.C.; one brother, Fulford Peele of Hatteras, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, Sept. 29, 1995, at 2 p.m. at the Hatteras United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Huskins and the Rev. Don Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Oden Family Cemetery in Hatteras. A visitation is scheduled for today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hatteras Island Chapel. Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, is in charge of these arrangements.
